Unlike previous Outlast games, The Outlast Trials is a multiplayer affair in which several players will take on the roles of survivors trying to help each other escape the deadly situation. Set in the Cold War for reasons unknown at the moment, this latest entry in the series has some pretty unwilling patients being affixed with some unremovable nightvision head gear and before they end up lose in the usual Outlast escapades of running from and outthinking stalking death. Red Barrels launched the latest trailer for The Outlast Trials on the PC Gaming Show on June 13, 2020. It remains to be seen if being able to split a killer’s attention among your friends will make it any easier to survive death in The Outlast Trials, but on the PC Gaming Show 2020, we got a fresh new look at the terror in store for us and our fellow survivors. Bringing friends along may feel safe, but The Outlast Trials seems it may be able to deliver enough scares for every players to justify its multiplayer experiment.Outlast has always asked players to survive alone and vulnerable against its intensely terrifying and violent threats, but in The Outlast Trials, Red Barrels, players will bring friends with them into the nightmare. While cooperative play threatens to ruin the series' tense atmosphere and isolated terror, the game's trailers still appear to contain many of the previous installments' staples. The Outlast Trials looks to be an intriguing next installment in the popular survival horror franchise. The main point of doubt about The Outlast Trials is its co-op, which is optional but could potentially diffuse much of the first games' immersive isolation. The decision to deprive players of any weapons, instead forcing players to use the environment in order to escape or hide, may not be very original in the horror space by 2021, but it's still an effective tool if used well by developers.
The franchise's overarching story has been generally praised, and the events seem to keep audiences coming back to the experience even after being downright petrified. Outlast is a beloved horror game series, with a disturbing atmosphere and tense gameplay bringing players to the edge of their seats.
